Easy Falafel Recipe
Easily learn how to make this falafel recipe that everyone will love. Nothing like freshly made falafel with pita bread, hummus, and fresh veggies.

Falafel is a middle eastern dish made from chickpeas, fresh herbs, a little seasoning and it’s deep-fried. I think everyone loves falafel and if you haven’t tried it you’re missing out! It’s crispy and delicious with pita bread, tahini sauce, yogurt sauce, and hummus.

Ingredients you’ll need to make falafel
- Chickpeas
- Onion – white, red, or yellow
- Fresh parsley
- Fresh cilantro
- Garlic cloves
- Cumin
- Salt
- Green pepper (serrano)
- Flour
- Baking soda
- Squeeze of lemon
If you want really yummy falafel you have to start with dried chickpeas. You can either soak them overnight or quick boil them.
Boil for 5 minutes then let them sit covered for an hour. While this is sitting you can work on prepping the rest of the ingredients.
How to make this falafel recipe
- Add the chickpeas, onion, parsley, cilantro, garlic, cumin, salt, and serrano pepper to your food processor and blend until the mixture is mixed well but not too smooth where there is no texture.
- Next, add in the flour, baking soda, and a squeeze of lemon juice. Let this chill in an airtight container for 10 minutes or longer
- Scoop out the falafel and create balls or patties. About 2 tablespoons each
- Heat up your oil in a large pot over medium-high heat. Fry 4-5 falafels at a time, when browned transfer to a dish or a plate lined with paper towels to soak up the oil
- Serve and enjoy with pita bread, hummus, tahini sauce, yogurt sauce, lettuce, tomatoes, and your favorite veggies.
How long does homemade falafel last
You can freeze the mixture up to 2-3 months. I wouldn’t freeze already fried falafel. They can last 2-3 days in the fridge after fried.
