How to make the best Chocolate Chip Banana Nut Bread

Chocolate, banana, and walnuts go together like PB&J. It’s a heavenly taste with all three combined into a moist bread. A magical trio that no one can deny.

Unless you can live without the nuts… chocolate chip banana bread is still king!

Bananas – Make sure to use very ripe bananas when making banana bread. The darker they are the better. For this recipe, I recommend using about 3-4 bananas.

If you are short on bananas you can use some applesauce to even it out.

Flour – Aerate your flour by fluffing it up with a spoon before putting it into your measuring cup.

This will ensure you are not using too much flour. Flour tends to settle which makes it compact and heavy.

Cream the butter and brown sugar together. Be sure to use melted butter when creaming it with the sugar to get the best results.

Using brown sugar adds more flavor and the melted butter will help keep the banana bread nice and moist.

Mix – Mix everything until just combined. You don’t want to over mix, it will leave the bread tough. You can easily do this recipe by hand if you don’t want to risk over mixing by using a hand or stand mixer.

Chocolate Chips and Walnuts – Fold in your mini chocolate chips of choice. Dark chocolate, milk chocolate, semi-sweet chocolate, or none at all. I also like to add in chopped walnuts.

Sprinkle some chocolate chips on top or get fancy and top it with a banana.

Bake – Let the bread bake for 1 hour.

If you notice it’s browning too quickly, place a piece of foil on top. You can also minimize it browning too quickly by not using a dark pan.

Check the bread with a toothpick. If the center comes out clean it’s done.

Let it cool for 30 minutes or until completely cool. Remove from the pan and serve.

How to store chocolate chip banana bread and keep it moist

Once the banana bread is completely cool you can wrap it with plastic wrap and leave it on the counter at room temperature for 3 days.

You can wrap it in plastic wrap or foil and store it in the fridge for up to 1 week.

Yes, you can also freeze your banana bread. Place it in a freezer bag and be sure to remove all the air. No freezer bag? Wrap it in plastic and then foil. Freeze up to 3 months.

To thaw the banana bread, remove from the freezer and let it come to room temperature and warm a piece up in the toaster and enjoy!

How to ripen bananas quickly

TIP: Bake your bananas at 300F for 15- 20 minutes or until they have completely browned.

If you ever find yourself with very ripe bananas but you’re not ready to make banana bread or do anything with them since they’re all brown and blackish. FREEZE THEM!

Whenever you’re ready to make banana bread just let them thaw out and you’ll never waste good bananas again.
